Since it’s already heated and annealed, there aren’t a lot of things you can do to modify it and make it stronger – it’s almost as if tempering is the final stage of strengthening you can do.
Another is its almost impossible fabrication. Tempered glass must be made and fabricated exactly to the desired shape and size before you temper them, why? Because of the limitations on modification. You have to make sure that when you fabricate or complete your tempered glass product, it’s already in the final form, shape, size, and decoration you want them to be.
Limited Thermal Resistance
While tempered glass can withstand high temperatures, extreme and sudden temperature changes can lead to breakage. Its resistance to heat and temperature doesn’t mean that it has excellent thermal resistance.
Last but most definitely not the least is the fact that tempered glasses have sensitive edges. The edges of tempered glass are more vulnerable to chipping or damage compared to the center. Special attention must be paid to edge protection during installation and handling.
Is Tempered Glass Used in Mobile?

Yes, modern tempered glass products or the majority of the tempered glass units today are used in the gadgets or the mobile industry. They’re used in conjunction with already-hardbound and strengthened screens, further strengthening and reinforcing them.

How is Tempered Glass Made?
Tempered glass is manufactured and produced in many different ways, depending on the brand or manufacturer. But, if you want to get a grasp of the general manufacturing process of tempered glass, they’re usually:
Step #1: Material Selection
The first step of manufacturing or producing tempered glass is, of course, the selection of the materials. Deciding what the raw material of the glass you are going to turn into tempered glass is the very first step, and it’s usually the trickiest.
Choose the specific glass type you want to temper, and then from there, it’ll proceed to step 2, which is…
Step #2: Glass Material Cutting
Oftentimes, the material you’ll be purchasing will be big or large in size. So, these large glass sheets are going to be cut into the desired shapes and sizes. Most manufacturers would use specialized glass cutting tools to get it to the size and shape needed, preparing them for the tempering process.
Step #3: Cleaning
After cutting, workers and operators would remove all the bits and shards that have built up on the surface of the glass. Cleaning is important for accuracy and precision, and it’s an integral part of the process because it can affect the quality of tempering overall.
Step #4: Heat Tempering
When done, the next step would be the tempering proper. The glass material will be heated to highly exceeding temperatures. For soda-lime glass or the simplest and most basic, it will be 620 °C or about 1,148 °F (may be different for other glass types).
NOTE: The temperature should be at a point where the glass material is made malleable.
It will then be left to cool down for a few minutes, and will then undergo cooling or annealing.
Step #5: Cooling/Annealing
The newly-manufactured tempered glass will be cooled using quenching processes to cool the glass swiftly. Sometimes, air jets are used for a faster and hastier process, creating the internal compression needed to achieve a stronger and tougher glass finish.
Step #6: Quality Assessment or Final Inspection
For the concluding part, the tempered glass will be up for final inspection or quality assessment by inspectors and expert glassmakers. They’ll be checked for strength and quality, as well as physical factors that could be attributed to quality.
Step #7: Packing and Distribution
For the last part, it will be the packaging and distribution of the tempered glass units purchased by the clients. Usually, these will be packed tightly, securing the glass products and for them not to move around while being transported.
